Savings Accounts FAQ
I know saving is important, but where do I start?
Start with your budget. Creating a simple monthly necessities budget tells you how much you can realistically afford to save. Stick to the habit, increasing the amount whenever you can. Get started with your free budgeting tool on MoneyEdu with registration code: MYSUNEDU
How much should I be saving?
It depends on your financial situation, but a good rule of thumb for saving is the 50/30/20 rule where 50% goes to your needs (bills, groceries), 30% goes to your wants (movies, dining) and the remaining 20% goes to savings. Set realistic goals that you can achieve and adjust as needed. Don’t try to bite off more than you can chew, but don’t sell yourself short either. 10% saved consistently and kept in savings is better than 40% that you always have to withdraw from.
